We are comprised of orchestra students in grades 4-12 that go to school in the Eastlake Learning Community.  Our primary purpose is to provide future and current string players with the knowledge and experiences to be successful musicians.  To us, success does not mean becoming a professional level musician.  Instead, it means that our students will learn to play their instrument to the best of their ability and gain an understanding and enjoyment of participating in a music program.

Our elementary program begins in the fourth grade with an introduction to the stringed instrument of their choice – violin, viola, cello, or string bass.  Classes are 2-3 times per week before school at Mead Elementary.  Students in 5th grade may also join orchestra at the beginning level.  For those students in the 4th or 5th grade with at least one year of string instruction, we have an intermediate level elementary group that meets twice per week, also at Mead before school.  The elementary schools in our area include Blackwell, Carson, McAuliffe, Mead, and Smith.  Students who were in beginning orchestra this year will need to register for Intermediate Orchestra next year.  If you were in Intermediate Orchestra this year, please register for Intermediate Orchestra again next year.

The Inglewood Middle School Orchestra classes meet during the day at Inglewood in room 111.  Orchestra 1 is for students in grade 6 who have never played a stringed instrument. Orchestra 2 is for 6th grade students who have at least one year of orchestra experience.  Orchestra 3 is for students in grades 7-8 with a minimum of one year playing a stringed instrument.  The Renaissance School of Arts and Reasoning does not currently have a music program.  For more information about Inglewood Middle School registration, see the IMS Orchestra page.

The Eastlake Orchestras meet durning the day in the EHS band room – B161. The EHS String Orchestra class is for students in the 9th-12th grades who would like to learn new musical skills in a string/full orchestra setting. The EHS Chamber Orchestra (NEW OFFERING) is an auditioned ensemble with a focus on advanced string techniques and musicality. Part independence and student leadership is fostered in this ensemble. For more information about Eastlake High registration, see the Sr High Orchestra page.

Our goal is to make communication and scheduling much easier for all of us.  If you would like more information, please click on one of the links or e-mail vharris@lwsd.org.  We’re looking forward to a great year of music and fun!
